Lab Log ------- *Use this space to keep notes on testing, listing any problems, accidental deviations from the protocol, or necessary exclusions as they occur. In the case of accidental deviations from the protocol, be sure to also consult the editor (replicationreports@gmail.com) when they occur* Due to a misunderstanding, we failed to register our project before starting gathering the data. On May 26, 2015, (one day before finishing data collection), we realized that we still needed to register the project. At this point we had not looked at the data. Before registering we made the following minor changes to the implementation page which reflect the actual procedure of collecting data. First, we acknowledged that we did plan to test participants individually, but in different rooms instead of cubicles. One experimenter would test one participant at a time. Second, we acknowledged that we did not plan to use a questionnaire to assess if German was the native language of participants, but rather have the experimenters check this during the interaction with the participants. Third, we clarified that we planned to roll a die as a randomization procedure. All of these changes to the implemenation page were clear prior to commencement of data collection on April 15, 2015, even though the implementation page was changed to reflect these changes only on May 26. During data collection, we encountered some problems with the following participants, who were excluded from the subsequent analysis: - subject 11: the .edat2-file for the MSIT was not written and exported due to an accidental computer reboot - subject 13: did not correctly follow the instructions of the MSIT, i.e. pressed the '1' button for the repeated number instead of the target - subject 14: non-native speaker - subject 60: non-native speaker - subject 61: non-native speaker - subject 97: did not correctly follow the instructions of the MSIt, i.e. switched hand during the task Further minor incidents were encountered with the following participants: - subject 9: the practice trial version of the letter 'e' task was falsely run using participant number 10 instead of 9 - subject 46: the practice trial version of the MSIT was accidentally overwritten by falsely using participant number 46 again for subject 47's practice trial - subject 51: the practice trial version of the MSIT was accidentally overwritten by falsely using participant number 51 again for subject 52's practice trial - subject 62: contrary to the preceding random assignment to the 'easy' version of the letter 'e' task, the 'hard' version was falsely run and completed (only) in the trial version - subject 115: the participant started the practice trial version of the MSIT while the experimenter was still in the room; the practice trial was aborted and restarted
