Wiki Version:
Structural Equation Modeling will be used to evaluate the hypotheses that when accounting for Psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and Narcissism, Bad Study Habits, Cheating, and Manipulative Behavior, the following will be significant pathways: - The link between Psychopathy and GPA will be partially mediated by Bad Study Habits. - Psychopathy will uniquely predict Bad Study Habits and Cheating. - Bad Study Habits will uniquely (negatively) predict GPA. - The link between Mach and GPA will be fully mediated by Psychopathy and Bad Study Habits. - Mach will uniquely predict manipulative behavior. - Manipulative behavior will uniquely predict GPA. - We will explore whether cheating uniquely (negatively) predicts GPA even after accounting for its association with Bad Study Habits. - The link between Narcissism and GPA will be fully mediated by Psychopathy and Bad Study Habits. - We will explore whether Narcissism uniquely predicts GPA (exploratory). - We will test the hypothesis (expecting to disconfirm it) that the Dark Triad predicts GPA in Business majors more than in Helping majors. - Disparities between perceived academic ability and actual academic ability accounts for any link between Narcissism and GPA. (exploratory) ANOVA amongst different academic majors will be used to evaluate the hypotheses that: - The "Artistic" majors will be associated with increased levels of Narcissism. - The "Artistic" majors will be associated with increased levels of Openness to experience. - The Business major will be associated with increased levels of Psychopathy, more so than any other major studied. - The Business major will be associated with increased levels of Narcissism. - The Business major will be associated with increased self-reported cheating behaviors. - The Accounting major will be associated with decreased levels of Narcissism, Machiavellianism, and Psychopathy. - The "Helping" majors will be associated with decreased levels of Machiavellianism and Psychopathy. - The "Helping" majors will be associated with increased levels of Agreeableness. Bivariate correlation analysis will be used to evaluate the hypotheses that: - Cheating will be associated with increased levels of the Dark Triad traits, with Psychopathy being a unique predictor of this association. - Negative study habits will be associated with increased levels of the Dark Triad traits, with Psychopathy being a unique predictor of this association. - Psychopathy will be associated with decreased levels of Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Neuroticism. - Psychopathy will be associated with increased levels of Extraversion and Openness to experience. - Machiavellianism will be associated with decreased levels of Agreeableness and Conscientiousness. - Narcissism will be associated with decreased levels of Agreeableness. - Narcissism will be associated with increased levels of Extraversion and Openness to experience. - "Helping" majors will be associated with Narcissism (exploratory, expecting to disconfirm). A T-Test analysis will be used to evaluate the hypothesis that there will be a gender difference in levels of psychopathy, such that male students will have higher levels than female students. A T-test analysis will also be used to explore the exploratory hypothesis that Upperclassmen Juniors and above) Business majors will be associated with higher levels of Psychopathy than Underclassmen (First years and Sophomores) Business majors.
