Description: The purpose of this study is to validate the IReST in an English-speaking Canadian sample of older adults (aged 60+). Canadian English speaking older adults (n=25) read all 10 IReST aloud following the procedures used in the original IReST validation. There were significant differences between the older adult sample and the published IReST values for each text (in all cases P less than .001, Mdiff = [-43.1 to -32.0], Cohen’s d = [-1.39 to -.79], Bayes Factors = [121 to 2.17x10e43]). Reading speeds of older (60+) Canadian adults fall outside of the standards established by the IReST. If researchers/clinicians wish to assess older adults reading speed, then the values provided by the IReST will likely underestimate their true reading speed.
