So you came to SIPS and loved the energy. Or maybe you got the chance to engage with scholars you respect and admire in a way you wouldn't be able to, or wouldn't feel comfortable doing at a typical scientic meeting. Or perhaps you went to a productive hackathon filled with other people who shared your passions, and thought, "Wow! Why don't we do stuff like this at regular conferences?" If any or all of the above experiences apply to you, you might be interested in the Unconferencing Other Conferences Hackathon. In this hackathon, we discussed how the SIPS conference model - in particular, hackathons - could be applied to other conferences. First we talked about the elements of SIPS that we would like to translate to other conferences and scientific meetings. We then discussed various “points of entry” for where SIPS-like programming would apply to traditional conferences. We came up with several different ideas for which the hackathon format might be useful. Finally, we discussed some possible barriers to people’s engagement in atypical conference programming, as well as some potential ways to make them more palatable to a broader audience.
