@[OSF](w9ytf) ## About The UP-OSN is an open science working group serving staff and students from the [University of Portsmouth](https://www.port.ac.uk) interested in learning about and practicing open science. #### What is an Open Science Working Group? An open science working group is a local branch of the UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN). Together, with the [UK Network of Open Science Working Groups (UK-OSWG)](https://osf.io/vgt3x/wiki/home/), we work to promote transparency and reproducibility in all fields of science across the UK through the use of (for example): * pre-registrations * preprints * open code * open data * open access publication ### Objectives The UP-OSN and the other open science working groups that make up the UKRN have five shared objectives: #### **Objective 1:** Build a community To share within the network our experiences and perspectives about open science, including potential opportunities, challenges, and practical tools. #### **Objective 2:** Raise Awareness To raise awareness outside the network about the benefits of open science practices for research and researchers. #### **Objective 3:** Education To generate practical tools for helping researchers adopt open practices, including training and guidance in relevant aspects of law, ethics, policies and procedures. #### **Objective 4:** Internal Promotion To lobby for open science policy reforms within our departments, colleges and universities. #### **Objective 5:** External Promotion To drive forward open science policies and practices within journals, funders, public bodies (e.g. HEFCE for the REF) and learned societies, engaging with journalists, parliamentarians, and the public about the economic and social benefits of open science. ### Join Us!
