Wiki Version:
Experiment 1 consisted of a speeded localisation task within a breaking continuous flash suppression (b-CFS) paradigm. Observers were to respond to the location of a target (i.e. left or right of the center) that appeared to one eye, while the other eye was presented with rapidly flashing masks. At one of three timepoints (before, at and after the target presentation) the observers would hear an auditory linguistic cue. The targets were red, green or blue, and the auditory cues were the spoken words: “red” “green” and “blue”. The cue could match the color of the target (e.g. the observer hears the cue word: “red” and a red target is presented) or mismatch the color of the target (e.g. the observer hears the cue word: “red” and a green target is presented). We measured and compared the response times in the congruent (matching cue and target) and incongruent (mismatching cue and target) conditions. Furthermore, we analyzed whether the timing of the cue and the effect of congruency interacted.
