The paper focuses on the controversial aspects of the concept of tolerance, a “good” required today in the pluralistic and multicultural democratic societies. Through a brief survey on the authors who first introduced the concept in our western culture, the main reasons that justify the opportunity to educate to tolerance today are explored.
