This project records the methods for the Laboratory Work Package of the ERC consolidator grant "How do humans recognise kin?" (KINSHIP). Participants will be recruited in pairs to attend two test sessions of one hour each over the course of two weeks. Participants will be primary relatives (parent-child, siblings), secondary relatives (grandparent-grandchild, aunt/uncle-niece/nephew, cousins) and non-relatives (partners, friends, co-workers). Familial relationships include consanguine (full, half), affine (step, in-law) and adopted relations. All participants will be over 18 years of age. ### Week 1 In Week 1, participants will complete the following components as an interview: - [Contextual Kinship Cues Questionnaire][1] Participants will also complete the following online questionnaires in a random order: - [Family Composition Questionnaire][2] - [Cognitive Kinship Cues Questionnaire][3] - [Adult Sibling Relationship Questionnaire][4] - [Perceived Phenotypic Similarity Questionnaire][5] - [Social Touch \[Reasons\] Questionnaire][6] - [Social Touch \[Regions\] Questionnaire][7] - [Altruism Questionnaire (Lieberman et al., 2007)][8] - [Altruism Questionnaire (Bressan et al., 2007)][9] - [Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index][10] - [Health Questionnaire (Coetzee et al., 2007)][25] - [Three-Domain Disgust Scale][25] - [Perceived Vulnerability to Disease Questionnare][25] Participants will also provide a facial photograph, a voice recording and a saliva sample as detailed in these components: - [Image Collection Procedure][11] - [Saliva Collection Procedure][12] - [Voice Recording Procedure][13] ### Week 2 In Week 2, another facial photograph will be taken of each participant, and anthropometric measurements will be taken as detailed in the following component: - [Anthropometric Measurements Procedure][14] Participants will complete the following components in a random order: - [Ultimatum Game][15] - [Trust Game][16] - [Facial Self-Resemblance Task][17] - [Social Value Orientation Slider Measure][19] Followed by the following components presented in a random order: - [Moral Judgements Questionnaire][20] - [Third-Party Attitudes Toward Sibling Incest Questionnaire][21] - [Specific Sexual Aversion Measure][22] - [Perceived Mate Fidelity Questionnaire \[Fathers Only\]][23] - [Partner-Specific Investment Inventory \[Couples Only\]][24] - [In-Pair Attraction \[Couples Only\]][24] - [Satisfaction with Partner's Sexual Attractiveness \[Couples Only\]][24] - [Extra-Pair Mating Questionnaire \[Couples Only\]][24] - [Self-Perceived Mating Success Scale][26] - [Socioseuxal Orientation Inventory Revised][26] - [Social Success Scale][26] - [Aggression Questionnaire][27] - [Intrasexual Competition Scale][27] If the first two weeks of testing should show that one test session takes considerably less or more time than anticipated, components might be swapped from Week 1 to Week 2 or vice versa to balance the length of the two test sessions.
