Wiki Version:
Participants read a short vignette (5 sentences) about two men, Mark and John, standing near a concession stand. Without being given a reason, Mark punches John, then John punches Mark. They start a fight in which a third, person, an 80-year-old woman is being knocked over and breaks her hip. The actions of the men are described in imperfective or perfective aspect (2x2 design). After participants read the vignette, we asked them to indicate (on a 11- point scale, 0 = not at all, 10 = extremely) to what extent Mark and John are to blame for 1) the scuffle, and 2) the injury of the woman (see also [https://osf.io/76fdq/][1]). Then we asked participants to make their best guess as to what the purpose of this task was. In addition we asked them to indicate whether there were any noise or distractions while performing the experiment and what device they used to perform the task. Also, we asked them to state their gender, age, level of education, native language, and the country where they live. This experiment took about 5 minutes to complete. Participants received $X (?) for their participation. Participants were recruited trough Amazon Mechanical Turk ([http://www.mturk.com][2]). The experiment was presented online in the Survey Monkey research suite. How did we decide on the sample size? [1]: https://osf.io/76fdq/ [2]: http://www.mturk.com
