Wiki Version:
**Introduction:** The main goal of this study was to test the effects of a short loving-kindness meditation compared to an imagery task on the evaluation of oneself, an unknown other, a neutral object and a disliked politician. **Method:** As outcome variables, mood (assessed with the PANAS), explicit and implicit attitudes (assessed with an affective priming paradigm) were measured. Besides, it was determined using sympathy ratings (10-point Likert scale) which politician was the most disliked one. A picture of this politician was used for the intervention (Loving-kindness meditation or Imagery). The outcome variables mood, explicit and implicit evaluations of a picture of oneself, a stranger, a neutral object and the most disliked politician were measured before and after the intervention. **Statistical Analysis:** First, it was analyzed if the sympathy rating of the politicians differed significantly between the target politician and the second and third most disliked politicians. Second, to test if LKM had mood effects compared to Imagery, we conducted separate 2 (group) * 2 (time) analyses of variance for positive and negative mood. Third, to find out if LKM had effects on explicit positivity compared to Imagery, we conducted a 5 (picture: most disliked politician, mean of the second and third disliked politician, self, other, object) * 2 (time: baseline, posttest) * 2 (group: LKM, Imagery) repeated measures ANOVA for the explicit evaluation composite score. Fourth, to analyze if LKM had effects on implicit positivity compared to Imagery, we conducted a 5 (picture: most disliked politician, mean of the second and third disliked politician, self, other, object) * 2 (time: baseline, posttest) * 2 (group: LKM, Imagery) repeated measures ANOVA for the implicit evaluation composite score. If sphericity was violated, the relevant results were Huynh-Feldt corrected (due to an Epsilon value of ε > .75) [20]. Analyses were performed using IBM Statistics SPSS 25. **Results:** We only found a significant reduction in negative and positive mood in both groups and no changes in explicit and implicit evaluations. **References**: Hutcherson CA, Seppala EM, Gross JJ.
