[Recommendating a Personality Cultural Pioneer][1] Current List of [Personality Cultural Pioneers][2] In Spring 2022, PLU Psyc310: Personality Theories, is using David Funder's 8th Ed of "The Personality Puzzle." This si a wonderful textbook in many, many ways. However, it has not yet decentered the content to include contributions from psychologists who were not white. Until there are better teaching materials, we must find alternative methods of decentering the curriculum. As such, one assignment in this course is to complete a "Diversifying the Personality Puzzle" assignment. The assignment will include students selecting from a list of Personality psychologists who were persons of color and made significant contributions to the field. Because the list is not yet started, and there are not clear resources to generate this list, I invited students to become historical detectives and find more examples to add to the list. Recommendations from qualified onlookers are also welcome. Please note that Grahe, Ceynar, & Mason (in press) use the term "Cultural Pioneer" to reference persons of color who earned their doctorate in the US before 1980. This term references the fact they they were often the only person from their demographic group in a department. While this component includes individuals that are not Cultural Pioneers according to this definition, the purpose of this page is to diversify representation within a Personality Psychology course, and thus contributions from recent individuals should also be included.
