Wiki Version:
The files posted in this space replicate the published article linked to in the preprint for Black Protested in the United States, 1994-2010 which is now published in Sociological Science at https://sociologicalscience.com/articles-v9-12-275/ . Deposited files provide basic characteristics of Black protest events, event clusters, article citations documenting these events, names mentioned the articles about the events. All data files are available as Stata .dta files and as Excel spreadsheets with one tab for the data and a second tab for the variable labels. Stata do document both the steps used to create the depositied files and the code used to generate the published results from the deposited data files. The deposited data files include an export date. Data collection from Black newspapers continues for this project. In a few cases, updated data leads to corrected or augmented coding of events or grouping of events into specific issue clusters. There are updated files from this larger project with a later release date posted to https://osf.io/mp8gs/ . The updated files include assigning sizes to all events, even those that are not physical gatherings, and providing more information about event types and relations among events. Those files also assign some events to more than one cluster.
