**November 2021**
We're thrilled to report that our manuscript, after some revisions for peer review, is upcoming with *Psychology of Popular Media*. =)
**May 2021**
Our manuscript was accepted for presentation at the ICA conference in Denver, moved online out of consideration for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. A video of that presentation was made available online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSlxN2NsB50
**October 2020**
In preparation for submission to the International Communication Association 2021 conference and eventual journal submission details of our prior project have been removed to facilitate anonymous review.
For those interested a document outlining our study alterations (from the original to the current study) can be found in the Study 1 folder, in this OSF project space.
**June 2020**
This project was ... tough. As we launched our final wave of data collection in Spring 2020 (we had collected just over 50% of our sessions by December 2019), the world was gripped by the novel coronavirus pandemic. Data collection was shuttered in March 2020 and our responsibilities shifted elsewhere. One consequence of this is that our sample will fall well short of the N = 300 we had hoped to collect to detect moderate effects. After data cleaning, we stand at n = 167.
However, we're happy to announce that we've been able to clean data and share our Excel and .csv sheets as of 13 June, with some minor updates to correct an issue with the participant random IDs.
**September 2019**
We're happy to announce that our submission was awarded a Best Pre-Registered Report award during a competition at [REDACTED]. That award came with a grant to help fund data collection. Thus, we're proud to say that this research was supported by [REDACTED].
