This component contains data files from the project 'Early language difficulties and emotion recognition in middle childhood: Evidence from the SCALES cohort' **NB Our ethics board required us to ask for explicit consent for Open Data sharing. 12 participants parents' consented to them taking part in the study but did not consent to Open Data sharing. We have removed these participants from the datasets shared here. Therefore the results obtained using this dataset will be slightly different to the results produced by our analysis scripts and reported in the paper.** There are 3 datafiles; 1. **DLD_ER_osf.csv** This contains the main data file with mean scores on the emotion recognition tasks, demographic information and composite scores for language and non-verbal IQ. 2. **ER_face_osf.csv** This contains item level responses on the facial expression task for creating confusion matrices 3. **ER_voice_osf.csv** This contains item level responses on the facial expression task for creating confusion matrices
