[Standard Operating Procedures][1]
-----------------------------
SOPs provide a good fallback plan for when unanticipated events occur during the course of a research project and provide the researcher with a justifiable action that is not subject to the biases that arise once data collection begins. For example, an SOP can include a rule that subjects will always be excluded if their response falls above or below a certain threshold, indicating inattentive subjects. See Lin and Green ([2016][2]) for a more complete description.
Labs that have a healthy list of SOPs can more easily preregister their experiments, as the fear of unanticipated complications diminishes as the list grows. It would be as easy as inserting a persistent link from a preregistration to one's SOP document.
I am interested in collecting a list of SOPs for other labs to peruse, so if your lab has one, please send them my way (david@cos.io). If your lab does not have one but you think it should, you can peruse the list below and amend one to your own needs.
