Wiki Version:
This project provides data on U.S. Department of Education grants to support research in education. The project has assembled data on: 1. **Cancelled federal education contracts and grants.** This effort was designed to provide information to potential funders about recently cancelled studies. The datasets identify the contractor or grantee, provide links to information about the study, and describe their topical areas, research methods, and "funding deficits." These data were assembled in the summer of 2025: - [Evaluation contracts from the National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance (NCEE)][1] at the Institute of Education Sciences (IES). These contracts funded a range of evaluation studies, including impact evaluations and descriptive studies. - [Research grants from the National Center for Education Research (NCER) and the National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER)][2] at IES. Data were assembled on research grants that funded impact evaluations. These grants may not have been officially cancelled, but they haven't receive this year's allotment of funding either. <br> 2. **Completed or ongoing federal grants from tiered evidence programs.** This effort was designed to provide federal officials responsible for these programs and outside researchers with information about the grants issued under these programs, particularly about the independent evaluations that these programs required. The data include total grant funding, the organization that received the grant, the organization conducting the independent evaluation, link to the analysis plan in the Registry of Efficacy and Effectiveness Studies (REES), final report in ERIC and elsewhere, What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) review of the study, and the highest WWC rating of study quality. These data were assembled in the spring and summer of 2025: - [Grants from the Investing in Innovation (i3) Fund][3]. These grants were issued between 2010 and 2016. All of these grants are completed. - [Grants from the Education Innovation and Research (EIR) Program][4]. These grants were issued between 2017 and 2024. Because these grants are multi-year, some of these grants are completed while others are ongoing. Data on grants awarded 2020 and beyond are available by request only. The codebook in each dataset provides additional information and the citation for the data. For errors or questions about the data on canceled federal education contracts and grants, please contact Rob Olsen. For errors or questions about the data on i3 or EIR grants, please contact Betsy Wolf. [1]: https://osf.io/9fpcr [2]: https://osf.io/zeqr3 [3]: https://osf.io/x267u [4]: https://osf.io/6ezm8
