In this first experiment, we built on the results of Experiment 3 by Hart and AlbarracĂ­n (2011). We hypothesized that if actions described in imperfective aspect are perceived as more intentional than actions described in perfective aspect, perhaps the agent of an action described in imperfective aspect is more to blame for the outcome than the agent of an action described in perfective aspect. We tested this idea in Experiment 1.
