Description: Movable: Narratives of Recovery and Place (https://movableproject.org), an interactive community archive that collects creative nonfiction, poetry, and interviews on the topic of recovery in Appalachia and beyond. Movable has been awarded over $200,000 in grant funding for site development, including for employing and collaborating with community members, students, and faculty to collect texts and conduct research on stigma related to substance misuse. This talk examines how Movable moved from an in-house prototype to a dynamic GIS-enabled site created in collaboration with a UK design firm. I will also address how topics including accessibility, participation, collaboration, and homogeneity--as well as larger issues related to class and place--have shaped the development of the site. Movable is created with Map Tiler/OpenStreetMaps and Rooftop CMS, with WordPress UI for content editing.
