Wiki Version:
The purpose of this study is to better understand what the ideal sexual partner would entail. Participants will be asked to build a mental picture of their IDEAL sexual partner, focusing on three different aspects, (1) the characteristics of the partner, (2) the behaviors that their partner would engage in, and (3) the characteristics of the sexual encounter (see methods and procedure section). Studying the ideal sexual partner may be important for further understanding of relationship ideals and partner compatibility. Participants' responses will be used in future studies to assess the underlying factors that affect a person’s perception of the ideal sexual partner and whether the similarity between an individuals' ideals and the partner would have important implications for commitment, relationship satisfaction, sexual satisfaction, and so forth. As this is the first study to examine sexual ideals, we do not have specific hypotheses, rather this study will generate items that capture participants ideals, and these ideals can be used to test specific hypotheses in the future.
