The purpose of this study is to not only explore the Kids These Days effect in a number of new and (mostly) negative domains, but to also to attempt to manipulate implicit theories of change about respect for authority and see if that can reduce the Kids These Days effect.
We will collect 1,500 participants, drawn in a stratified way with unequal probabilities of selection, so that the people who complete each survey will resemble the nation's adult population (according to the most recently available Current Population Survey, conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau) in terms of gender, age, education, ethnicity (Hispanic vs. not), race (allowing each respondent to select more than one race), region, and income. This sample size is chosen to maximize sample size under a fixed availability of funds to spend on this project.
