The complexity of studying hydrological processes using Soil Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) has led to the development of SWATShare, a SWAT model sharing, execution, and visualization platform aiming at addressing the challenges of time-consuming SWAT model data collection and computation intensive modeling runs. SWATShare is an interactive web-based environment for research and education using SWAT. Scientists can share their models online or reuse SWAT models shared by others. Through SWATShare three types of SWAT simulations (regular simulation, sensitivity analysis, and auto-calibration) can run using high performance computing resources at SDSC and Purdue. Spatial and temporal plots may be dynamically generated using model outputs. SWATShare has been used to teach students how to apply SWAT models for simulating watershed hydrology to study the impact of land use and climate in several classroom settings.
