We have an amazing set of sample lakes shaping up, look here!
Project participants can find the authorship agreement here and should add their name and contact information to this spreadsheet.
Please review the sampling protocol and sampling data sheets.
The goal of this project is to coordinate data collection efforts among scientists interested in, or already addressing, the question of how different carbon sources (e.g. phytoplankton, ice algae, detritus) differentially support lake consumers (zooplankton, benthos) throughout the year.
Methodologically, this is a potentially challenging question. For example, separating detrital from algal material is difficult and the stable isotope signatures of different resources may overlap.
Coordinating data collection efforts and methodological approaches (e.g. stable isotopes, fatty acids, pigment analysis) would drastically improve our ability to effectively answer this question and allow us to eventually synthesize and compare findings across system types.
Note – please feel free to contribute even if you have no plans to collect new data in the immediate future - your input is welcome!
