Wiki Version:
When people believe that the youth of today are in decline, they often look for a reason. These reasons have historically been the most modern technology or societal change, but once those become normal and accepted are no longer viewed as the cause of the decline of the youht (which people still believe are happening). Today, the current scapegoats for the decline of the youth are social media and smartphones. Before that, console video games and heavy metal music were the cause of the decline. Before that, television was the decline. Before that, the radio. Beofre that, cars, before that, novels, and so on and so on. The purpose of this study is to test the hypothesis that when looking for a cause of the decline of the youth (which occurs for separate reasons, see Protzko & Schooler, 2019), whatever someone happened to not grow up with but is prevalent in todays society are chosen as the cause of the decline. **References** Protzko, J., & Schooler, J. W. (2019). Kids these days: Why the youth of today seem lacking. *Science advances*, 5(10), eaav5916.
