*Measuring Socialism* is a compilation of data whose variables might be used to measure countries' proximity to the ideals of "free markets" or "socialism". Its goal is to push analyses about the political, economic, and social consequences of socialism and free markets away from impressionistic comparisons of Venezuela and Sweden towards more rigorous measurement schemes. The first version of this set is a cross-section of 46 countries over 243 variables. In future versions, we hope to add longitudinal measures. This is a work in progress.
