**READ ME FIRST** This section contains the most recent versions of the open and reproducible research workshop curriculum and accompanying slides. Any significant updates or changes to the curriculum will be documented here, in the wiki. The curriculum, if presented in its entirety, takes approximately 3 hours to run through. The curriculum file is divided into modules to make it simple for trainers to decide which sections to present or drop depending on their audience's needs. Trainers are invited to expand existing modules or create new ones. [Workshop FAQ][13] **2019-05-15 Motivating behavior, prereg challenge, consistent "Preregistration" useage:** * Added additional material on why these behaviors are important and researchers can benefit from them. * Removed section on the Preregistration Challenge incentive program because that program has now ended. * Replaced errant instances of "pre-registration" with our preferred "preregistration" * Other miscellaneous corrections **2019-02-14 URLs, © Copyright, Font removal, & removal of "additional slides":** * Canonical URLs for all three filetype versions of these materials (ODP, PDF, & PPTX) have been added directly to the open and close slides in the presentation. * A copyright notice has been added to the presentation on first and last slides so thatthe ability to reuse these materials is clear to everyone who gets the file outside of the context of this project and thus may not know of the project's associated copyright license. * All images that are *not* available under the CC-BY license of the whole presentation now have direct copyright notices next to them along with links to the original locations where they were originally published. * Due to the arbitrary limitations of PowerPoint that prevent embedding fonts in a presentation except through the Windows operating system, I have removed the embedded fonts from the other two presentation formats. This prevents the PDF and ODP versions from seeming 10x larter than PPTX, when the PPTX is in fact 10% larger once none of the formats have the added weight of an embedded font. All fonts used are still provided in the Fonts folder of this project. * All slides after the "Thank You" one ending the normal presentation have now been removed. These have not been used in a year and have drifted from the current OSF interface. **2018-04-13 OSF storage for all materials:** - The Curriculum document and the presentations files are now all stored directly on OSF in the standard set of formats (ODT, DOCX, PDF). **2018-03-30 File Format, Font changes, and GUIDs in the wild:** - In order to make these materials themselves better follow the [FAIR principles](https://www.force11.org/group/fairgroup/fairprinciples), we have switched to the openly licensed odp format from [LibreOffice](https://www.libreoffice.org/)/OpenOffice. To ensure maximum interoperability, pptx and pdf versions remain available. - In a similar effort to ensure these materials will work on as wide a variety of different applications and platforms as possible, the fonts have been changed to use three openly licensed font families. These are available in the "Fonts" directory alongside the presentation files as well as being directly embedded in the odp presentation. - We have added a new slide highlighting a real world example of GUIDs used inside figure captions. This is a great specific behavior researchers can adopt and *[Public Data Archiving in Ecology and Evolution: How Well Are We Doing?](doi.org/10.1371/journal.pbio.1002295)* calls out the practice of directly linking to relevant code and data sections from within the publication as a practice that can greatly improve the understandability and reusability of these additional materials. - The "Steps" slides have been changed slightly so that the steps related to adding files and now say "Add" rather than "Archive". This better follows the activities we ask participants to perform and may reduce confusion about the relationship between the "Steps" slides and the actual instructions during a workshop. **2017-09-13 Major changes to the curriculum made since last update:** - Preregistration module has been revised for increased clarity, including the addition of several guiding, transitional slides. - Descriptions of "sensitive" data have been revised to refer to "regulated" data, as this is more accurate. The OSF's security features make it a responsible location to house sensitive data, except in cases where regulations like HIPAA require specific storage arrangements. - Additional slides helping tie the different sections of the training to the research life cycle were added, along with thumbnails in the curriculum. **2017-06-19 Major changes to the curriculum made since the TTT:** - Added a Version Date header to the cover page so that you can easily track which version you're looking at if you print or download the file. - Added "Day Of Preparations" to the Pre-Course Information section. - Added a section on logging into the OSF using your institutional credentials. - Created a second edit of the wiki in the wiki section so that the Preregistration module can be easily separated out from the rest of the curriculum while still allowing the participants to engage the wiki's version control feature for later modules. - Added a section on the 'Check out' feature. - Moved Incentives and Course Close into their own modules to facilitate inclusion/exclusion. - Moved the Exploratory vs. Confirmatory Research discussion up in the Preregistration module, before the discussion of pre-analysis plans. - A few new slides were added to the slide deck to help point trainers and participants to new sections or activities. - 6/22/17: Updated the final three slides and accompanying script in the workshop close to emphasize next steps that participants can take. *If you develop a new or revised training module that you would like to share, please upload it to the OSF storage here.
