Wiki Version:
The first target is expected to show a pattern of results resembling what we found for the three groups in the dual-RSVP, with by far the largest difference between the groups being greater temporal precision for the gamers. It was about 0.84 items for the musicians and controls, and 0.64 for the gamers. A power analysis for the temporal precision comparison of the gamers to the controls and musicians suggest that to achieve 85% power, about 20 per group are needed. We will aim to recruit 25 per group, and hope to be successful through the first-year psych subject pool for this second 2015 semester. We plan to finish recruitment by end of the teaching period, and will try to recruit from outside the subject pool if it appears we won’t achieve at least 20 per group this semester. If we are not able to complete recruitment of at least 16 per group by the end of teaching period we will continue testing next year until we achieve 20 per group. We have no expectations for the results with the second, delayed target in the attentional blink task. Please see the attached file, PreregistrationforABtask.. (originally written on Google Drive https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yxJvv1n2JRjmOtf16uYZRqmbKT6XINzpqRTDt16Dd18/edit), for the study details and other analyses that we have planned.
