Wiki Version:
Data will be coded as follows: All kids these days scales will be coded on -3 to 3 scales with higher numbers indicating a belief that children today are much worse. Psychopathy scale will be coded as the average of all items. Narcissicm sclae will be coded as the sum of all items in the narcissism scale and the 2 overlapping items with the entitlement scale. Entitlement scale will be coded as the total of all the items in the entitlement scale and the 2 overlapping items with the narcissicm scale. Machiavellianism will be coded as the average of all items. Brief self-control scale will be broken into its constituent subscales (restraint, impulsiveness) as the mean of the items on each subscale. Analyses of each of the primary questions will proceed in regressions with no control variables using robust standard errors. This will be done with the following code: regress ktspsycho psychopathy, vce(robust) regress ktdnarc narcissism, vce(robust) regress ktdentitle entitled, vce(robust) regress ktdmach machiavellianism, vce(robust) regress ktdsc restraint impulsive, vce(robust) As supplementary analyses, we will test whether adding age to the regression models change the results. For analyzing the intervention effects, we predict that the flat condition would show the lowest kids these days belief, consistent with the implicit change correlation results. First, we test whether there is a difference between the three conditions. Then, assuming a significant effect, we will follow it up with a Fisher LSD posthoc test. This will be done with the following code: anova ktdrespect increase pwcompare increase, effects sort where increase is a variable for 0 = flat group, 1 = increasing group and 2 = control group All participants who fail the seriousness check will be excluded from the analysis, but as a supplementary test we will run the full data with them in.
