Wiki Version:
Data were collected using an Excel spreadsheet. Data points were collected from the following sources: * Weeks of semesters were calculated by using publicly available Academic Calendars for the years 2012-2018 from the East Carolina University Faculty Senate Committee archived academic calendars page: https://facultysenate.ecu.edu/archived-academic-calendars/ * Football game data was gathered from the ECU football site listing schedules:https://ecupirates.com/sports/football/schedule * Gate count data was gathered from Sensource software that tracks entries and exits for the East Carolina University Libraries. Sensource cameras/counters are mounted above the doors of the entries for both Joyner and Laupus Libraries. Both libraries have single points of entry for the public. Gate counts may include entries and exits by staff members as well, but these additional numbers are expected to be minimal on Saturdays due to significantly reduced staffing levels on Saturdays (e.g. Laupus Library was staffed by two full-time employees on the Saturdays for the years studied. A single student worker provided limited hours of support on Saturdays as well). Staff may also have entered through doors restricted to employee entries only. Because there is no way to track the doors through which Saturday employees entered and exited the building, no attempt was made to control for potential, small inflations of entries by employees. * Weather data was gathered from wunderground.com. Only the presence or absence of precipitation was recorded. This data was gathered as part of an initial consideration of whether or not rainfall may effect interest in attending outdoor football-related activities on Saturdays for the years in question. This data was not used; precipitation was recorded as occurring if any precipitation was recorded between 0001 and 2400 hours of the days in question. The generosity of this definition of recorded rainfall was problematic; it was also decided that many other weather factors not recorded might be equally influential when considering the effects of weather on football game attendance and pregame social activities. * Enrollment data was collected from historic factbooks available from the East Carolina University Institutional Research, Planning and Assessment site: https://ipar.ecu.edu/research/rsrch-historic-data/#factbooks
