Wiki Version:
Predicates communicating advice, obligation, request (e.g. simvulevo ‘advise’, ipohreono ‘require’, zitao ‘request’, diatazo ‘order’, hence ADVISE-Ps) are typically classified as subjunctive selecting in Greek(Giannakidou, 1998, 2015) and in Romance (Farkas, 1992; Giorgi and Pianesi, 1997; Villalta, 2008; Quer, 2009). In this work, we show that ADVISE-Ps can also combine with indicative embedding a prioritizing (hence, PRT) modal operator. We take these data to posit a challenge for selectional approaches to mood pointing towards analyzing mood as a modal operator.
