Description: In this experiment, we use audio recordings of the alibi statements given in the previous experiments to test laypeople's perceptions of those statements. Specifically, we're interested in whether laypeople can tell the difference between true and false alibis, schema consistent or inconsistent alibis, and whether labeling the statement an alibi changes perceptions. We test asked participants to rate four statements (fully crossed accurate/inaccurate and schema consistent/inconsistent) on a number of truthfullness and memorability measures. We also vary (between subjects) whether the statements are referred to as "memories" (neutral condition), an alibi in an investigation (investigation condition) or alibi in a trial (trial condition).
