Wiki Version:
This project contains supplementary material, data, and R scripts in order to reproduce the results from the manuscript "A comparison of simple structure rotation criteria in temporal exploratory factor analysis for event-related potential data?". The paper can be found under the following reference: Scharf, F., & Nestler, S. (2019). A Comparison of Simple Structure Rotation Criteria in Temporal Exploratory Factor Analysis for Event-Related Potential Data. Methodology, 15(Supplement 1), 43–60. https://doi.org/10.1027/1614-2241/a000175 The directory **Figures** contains all figures that were used in the manuscript both das eps and as PDF files. The file **Supplementary.pdf** contains supplementary figures in which the estimated factor loadings are depicted for simulation conditions with correlated factors. In addition, an additional table of the factor score means that were used in the simulation is available. Please open **ScharfNestler2019_Methodology_rotation.Rproj** for the scripts to work without additional path adjustments. For each study, the following files are provided: - **analyze_sim.R:** Analyses of simulation results - **run_sim_parallel.R:** Main script to run the simulations - **settings.R:** Contains the simulation parameters - **myRotations.R:** Functions for all rotations (including Component loss rotation), also defining the rotation parameters - **myTools.R:** Various utility functions for the simulation - **Jennrich_derivativeFree_GPA:** Derivative free rotation GPA rotation as provided on Robert Jennrich's personal homepage. - **ScharfNestler2019_Methodology_overlapping_topography.Rdata:** Simulation results for overlapping topographies - **ScharfNestler2019_Methodology_orthogonal_topography.Rdata:** Simulation results for orthogonal topographies reported in the paper - **ScharfNestler2019_Methodology_summaryStats.Rdata:** Summary statistics as reported in the tables in the manuscript - **create_tables.R:** Script to create the reported tables from the summary stats in *ScharfNestler2019_Methodology_summaryStats.Rdata* The directory **Supplementary Simulation** contains a variation of the simulation that was suggested during the review process. In this simulation study, we 1) included Varimax rotation, and 2) reran the critical conditions (i.e., in which conflated factors occurred) with 50 random starts for the rotation algorithm. The resulting (averaged) factor loadings are provided in a figure and the full results and scripts are available for inspection. If any questions occur, please do not hesitate to contact us.
