Original records were obtained via New York State (NYS) Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request to NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) on 2014-02-25, pursuant to [Public Officer's Law, Article 6, Section 84-90](https://www.dos.ny.gov/coog/foil2.html).
Therefore there is no licensing restriction on the data.
I processed these records for my PhD research on taxi transportation, as well as a few journal papers.

Data attributes:
- ID: TPEP vendor, medallion and hack (driver) licenses;
- Space & time: pickup and drop-off GPS coordinates and time stamps;
- Trip: fare rate, passenger count, trip distance and duration, signal flag;
- Fares: fare, surcharge, tax, toll, tip, total, payment type;
Data processing levels:
1. Level 0: original records;
2. Level 1: reconstructed records with correct syntax;
3. Level 2: clean data;
Data dictionary provides detailed metadata on these files.
