Description: Using data on marital events from the American Community Survey, I calculate multiple-decrement life table estimates of the probability of divorce before widowhood.
This method of estimating period divorce rates, which I got from this old Sam Preston paper (https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/004912417500300405), combines mortality rates and death rates to project how many people are lucky enough to die before divorcing at current rates.
