The files provided in this Open Science Framework repository document the methods, data, and analyses reported in 'Word embeddings reveal growing moral concern for people, animals, and the environment'. The files included are:
**calculating_cosines_historic_models.ipynb**. A Python 2 notebook documenting how to compute the cosine similarity between words denoting people, animals, and the environment and words denoting concern and indifference. The data are extracted from the Histwords All English (1800s-1990s) models (https://nlp.stanford.edu/projects/histwords/) and the resulting scores are saved in comma-delineated files. The notebook can be opened and run in Google Colab (https://colab.research.google.com/).
**cosines.csv**. A comma-delineated file collating the cosine similarity scores provided by the Python notebooks above.
**analysis_script.R**. An R script file documenting the main analyses utilizing the data in 'cosines.csv'.
