Description: We evaluated how health anxiety, and financial incentives affect symptom endorsement, cognitive functioning, and physiological responses in the context of a mock FDA drug recall. One-hundred and sixty-one participants reported their use of common over-the-counter medicines and were then presented with fictional information regarding an FDA recall of these medications via a mock FDA website. We experimentally manipulated the opportunity to join a class-action lawsuit with a potential monetary settlement. Multiple self-report measures of health anxiety, usage of the recalled drugs, and symptoms were collected, along with assessments of blood pressure, heart rate, and performance on a computerized Trail Making Test (TMT).
