Wiki Version:
This repository includes all of the materials, data, and code for the main study (forthcoming). What you will find here: Glyph_Guessing_Norms • BLIND Norms for Scripts: 2 pdf documents showing each script's Glyphs alongside the script's normed 'Guessability'. Ranked by guessability (highest to lowest) or ordered by script number. • BLIND Norms for Glyphs: pdf documents showing each individual glyph ranked in order of spatial frequency, with mean guessing as /i/ or /u/ shown. • NON-BLIND Norms for Scripts: 2 pdf documents showing each script's Glyphs alongside the script's normed 'Guessability'. Ranked by guessability (highest to lowest) or ordered by script number. Vowel identity clearly shown. Glyph_Stimuli: • 112 60x60 pixel .png files of individual glyphs named by an alphanumeric code blinding the identity of the vowel and the writing system. • A Decoding Table in xlsx format listing each glyph code along with the writing system and the vowel - for use in analysis (Non-Blind). • 2 Lookup Tables (pdf) showing the glyphs, their codes, and the name of the writing system with full citations. One of the lookup tables is BLIND to the identity of the vowel (L/R location randomized), the other is non-Blind. These lookup tables can be used in study design (for example, selection of glyphs with certain visual characteristics). Raw Data and Code • 01 Participant Data - additional information about the participant sample in the 3 experiments • 02 Glyph Guessing Data - raw data table in xlsx format containing each individual's guess for each stimulus in each experiment, with exclusions marked (e.g., for known scripts) • 03 Spatial Frequency Data - raw data table of spatial frequency as computed from the Glyph pngs using the matlab code, including summary data columns • 04 Code - original code for computing Spatial Frequency for each Glyph Test Kit • Original question sheet (and answer sheet) for /i/ guessing and /u/ guessing, showing all 56 letter-pairs and original instructions (only the /u/ version was used in the study - Exp 1) • Demographics questionnaire used in Exp 1.
