Description: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder that may predispose to maladaptive experiences to life changes, such as menstruation. Due to gender-based disparities in research, however, there is still paucity of information relating to menstrual experiences among autistic individuals. The purpose of this scoping review is to examine existing evidence about menstrual experiences, including menarche and menopause, among autistic individuals who menstruate, and propose a biopsychosocial model on the complex interplay of individual, healthcare, and societal vulnerabilities that predispose autistic individuals to negative menstrual experiences.
