Based on the Meissner and Brigham (2001) meta-analysis, the original research produced several of the larger published effects. Thus I expect that we will see a verbal overshadowing effect in our replication, but it is likely to be smaller than in the original research. Because participants will describe the robber immediately after seeing the video (which seems to enhance the effect) I expect the effect size (Fisher’s Zr) to be between -.10 and -.20.
