Wiki Version:
The broad purpose of the present study is to replicate an experiment reported in Tiemann et al. (2011) and to gain further insight into the processing of presuppositions (PSPs). The focus in this replication is on when accommodation of presuppositions takes place. Presuppositions are a controversially discussed topic in the semantic and pragmatic literature (for an overview see Beaver & Geurts, 2011). One option to gain further insight into an adequate theory is to have a closer look at the processing of presuppositions. Therefore, Tiemann et al. (2011) conducted a series of three experiments that tried to find answers to the basic questions of when presuppositions are triggered, when they are validated within a given context and when accommodation takes place. In our replication study, we focus on the third question and try to replicate the corresponding experiment with several adaptations.
