Wiki Version:
**Pediatric Acute Care Referral Region File Sharing** This page hosts key files for sharing the first edition of Pediatric Acute Care Referral Regions. *We strongly recommend reading the notes on files below before downloading and using the files below:* HSA-level data are not available due to data use restrictions intended to minimize hospital reidentification. ---------- **1. ped_zip_hrr_crosswalk.csv** This file is a ZIP-code level CSV assigning ZIP codes to pediatric Hospital Referral Regions (HRRs). *Please note*: Because some ZIP codes begin with 0, when you open this file, do not allow auto-conversion into numbers, as this will drop leading 0s from these ZIP codes. We recommend importing all fields as character fields. Preferred terminology is the "name", which is in the format ST-HRR for HRRs, where "ST" represents the state's postal abbreviation. However, the crosswalk also contains the state-specific HRR number as a separate field for completeness. ---------- **2. hrr_shapefiles.zip** This ZIP file contains folders for pediatric HRRs each of the 8 states in the project. Folders have a prefix of "p" (*i.e.*, the folder is titled "pHRR") to reduce confusion if working with multiple region systems by clearly identifying pediatric-specific regions. When **HRR shapefiles** are imported into GIS software, the underlying attribute table will have standard fields for mapping. In ArcGIS Pro, these are FID, Shape, ST_pHRR_Sh, and ST_pHRR_1, where "ST" is the state postal code. There will be additional fields of interest: - hrrnames_s: the state postal code - hrrnames_h: the "number" of the HRR (within a state) - hrrnames_1: the name of the HRR, in ST-HRR format (preferred). We recommend use of the name fields in hyphenated formats, but provide the others for completeness. ---------- If you require shapefiles that define Zip Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs), they can be obtained from the US Census Bureau at the link below. This project was constructed using the 2010 definition of ZCTAs.
