In their recent contribution to this journal, Cerda and GarcĂa investigated the willingness to pay (WTP) for vaccination against COVID-19. Based on a Chilean sample and an estimated WTP of 232 USD, the authors argued in favor of private vaccination financing, with government support for low-income groups. However, our reanalysis of their data shows that the proposed charge would reduce vaccination intention, putting public health at risk. We conclude that to facilitate uptake, vaccination should be free for everyone.
