Description: Our study explores how people form impressions of strangers. Participants are recruited online and given a link to download the ExperienceSampler smartphone app (Thai & Page-Gould, 2017), which they can use to answer daily surveys. For 15 days, participants are notified 2x per day at quasi-random times to evaluate a person on various traits (e.g., trustworthy, dominant), and to answer a short questionnaire about their current situation, environment, mood, and physiological state (e.g., “How sunny is it right now?"). We explore to what extent real-world contexts influence the way that people form impressions of others.
