Description: This project analyses the distribution and use of the lexical item 'pretend' and its word forms using corpus data. The project investigates the use and frequency of 'pretend' in child and caregiver utterances in 13 monolingual British children over the time of 2 years to 5 years of age using the Thomas corpus (Lieven et al. 2009) and the Manchester corpus (Theakston et al. 2001), which are available in the CHILDES database (MacWhinney 2000)
