Description: This project is a reanalysis of data from a study by Runswick et al (2020): 'The effects of skill-level and playing-position on the anticipation of ball-bounce in rugby union'. Here we intend to use a Bayesian computational model of perception to investigate the role of contextual priors and sensitivity to visual cues during the anticipation of the bounce of a rugby ball. Based on participant responses, the model will estimate parameters for their prior beliefs and sensitivity to visual cues (i.e., the likelihood mapping) that optimise the predictive power of the model. These estimated parameters will then be used to compare the priors and sensory sensitivity of expert rugby players to novices. We will also compare the relative roles of priors and visual cues across different levels of visual occlusion.
