**Overview** In this first session of the Fall Research Data Management series, we’ll focus on the early stages of the research process. We'll introduce the core concepts involved in research data management; discuss planning for the success of your research projects; building a data management plan (DMP) to support your work and meet granting agency requirements; and finally investigate the FAIR principles and unpack some of the complexities of the research process.
