Description: Physical Activity Behaviors (PAB) play a significant role in promoting health, well-being, and the prevention of various non-communicable diseases. Despite the well-established benefits of physical activity, a large proportion of the population remains insufficiently active. Understanding the determinants of PAB is critical for designing effective interventions and policies to increase physical activity levels across different populations. Research on PAB determinants has encompassed various factors, including individual, biological, psychological, behavioral, socio-cultural, and environmental aspects. However, inconsistencies in terminology of PAB determinants have impeded research progress, as they can lead to difficulties in comparing findings across studies, synthesizing evidence, and implementing effective interventions. To address these challenges, this study aims to develop a consensus statement to establish consistent terminology for PAB determinants across individual, biological, psychological, behavioral, socio-cultural, and environmental factors. By facilitating a common language among researchers, practitioners and policymakers on PAB determinants, the consensus statement will contribute to more effective interventions and policy development to promote physical activity and improve public health outcomes. This study is part of the Deliverable 3.3 (D3.3) of a COST Action entitled DEPASS - Determinants of Physical Activities in Settings (CA19101) which aims to identify, understand and measure the determinants which promote, maintain or inhibit PAB across the lifespan and in different settings, in order to assist policy-makers in achieving greater health impact.
