Abstract
CSIRO and ASTRON both have an extensive background in building correlator. The background allows some approximate rules of thumb to be derived for the hardware units in correlators. CSIRO and ASTRON are currently working towards the design and build of the SKA Low correlator and beamform (Low CBF). The hardware platform for this is Gemini. A single-FPGA board using a high-end Xilinx FPGA that meets correlator requirement. It is water cooled making it ideal for the ALMA site. In this talk, some aspects of the Low CBF system are explored and the design extrapolated to ALMA level performance. A 5-6Hz system for combined ALMA and ACA processing (all baselines) is described.
