In this study, we aim to coduct a Multi-Lab Registered Replication and Extension of [IJzerman et al.'s (2012) Study 1][1]. In the original study, the authors found that peripheral temperature decreased in a sample of Dutch students following an experience of social exclusion through Cyberball. The original study measured peripheral temperature on the index finger of the non-dominant hand. This original study was powered at 67% (see [data][2] and [script][3]). We will therefore first seek to replicate that finding, which will be the confirmatory part of our study. We will extend the original study in various ways, exploring other facets of the effect: 1. We will collect teamperature measures from index and pinky finger of the non-dominant hand, the wrist of the non-dominant hand, and the supraclavicular area on the non-dominant side. 2. We will measure all variables from our [social thermoregulation protocol][4]. 3. Social exclusion (versus inclusion) will be manipulated via the “Cyberball game” ([Williams & Jarvis, 2006][5]; [Williams et al., 2000][6]) like in the original study. 4. The sample size for each cluster will be increased (minimum N=95 per each cluster for the present project; original project N=41). 4. To achieve better control of the experimental environment, room temperature was continuously measured using Tempo DicsTM (Bluetooth Temperature, Humidity, and Dew Point Sensor Beacon and Data Logger). The CORE Lab will provide sensors, mobile phones, and server space to participating researchers, and will train researchers how to use the sensors.
