Description: Originating in feminist and antiracist scholarship intersectionality is often described as a travelling concept or theory (Chebout 2011), which changed over time and is currently applied in different disciplines and differing ways. It was taken up my various scholars and disciplines, leading to a wide scope of approaches considering various axes of analysis (Hankivsky 2012). Walgenbach (2012) highlights that the paradigm of intersectionality is “work in progress” aiming to open up new research perspectives always focusing on the analysis of power structures. This review aims to show the ways in which the concept of intersectionality has been applied in scientific debates around bioethical issues and ethical questions concerning health care in general. The research question itself shows the broad approach asking “where and how intersectionality is applied in bioethical scientific debates”. This includes questions concerning research approaches and methods, specific research subjects as well as theories and interdisciplinary topics. This systematic review is also meant to be a basis for further empirical research on intersectionality in the realm of bioethics to enable more complex research perspectives, including issues of anti-discrimination and better health care for all.
