Wiki Version:
Psychological researchers have made great strides to improve methods and practices, but we can do more. The theme of the 2018 Society for the Improvement of Psychological Science preconference is ‘Pre-registration.’ We’ll be focusing on improving shared standards for the descriptions, content, and reporting of pre-registrations through a combination of talks, tutorials, and mini-hackathons. We’ll also be providing tips and tricks for engaging with newer publication methods (Registered Reports) and data collection networks (the Psychological Science Accelerator) that involve registration, and discussing how pre-registration can work for complicated research designs or secondary data analysis projects. We’ll also discuss how to incorporate pre-registration practices into teaching and mentoring. All sessions will be action-oriented and give participants concrete tips and lessons to improve their own research and contribute to the improvement of the field. This pre-conference is aimed at people at all career stages. No experience with replicability or open science is required, and we hope that all attendees will be active participants in the sessions.
